An interview with Flavio Scramignon

* As winner of Second Prize in the Digital category in the 2000 International Art Contest, being selected by such a diverse group of artists from all around the world, how do
you feel?
Besides the great honour, the opportunity to share a part of me, a part of my work, with the rest of the world is a very exciting experience. I felt it in double, because it was the first time I put my drawing on a contest. Thank You!
* Please describe your current works and any plans for forthcoming exhibits.
I start using the usual tools for drawing, then I was introduced to a computer, now I hardly use other tool to do my work. I'm planning an exhibit on which I'll only use drawings made on Computer.
* If any, in what ways have you seen changes in attitudes towards "art"?
I think that the capital change is that now more and more people have access to good art of all kind.
* Do you think that the fine artist will survive as technology replaces our skills?
Without doubt technology will help. It's helping!
* What advice could you give to those embarking upon a career as an artist?
Never give up. Each compliment, even if it comes from your mother, must be seen as a
step to go higher and higher.
* Why did you enter the Art Dept contest and what decided your selection for entry?
I saw an opportunity to display my work, but didn't expect to be chosen. I chose the bee because I thought it was the one that best fit for the contest, and I like it.
* Is there anything about being an artist that you do not like?
Art is everything, it is the only human thing which purpose is just itself.
* Would you sell your most favourite artwork, or keep it?
I would prefer to keep it.
* How important was education and training to you?
It's is very important. Is very hard, much more difficult and takes much more time to develop technics without education.
* Is there anything in your art career that you would have changed?
I would be more dedicated in the beginning and try to believe a little more in myself.
* If you were invited overseas to exhibit your works, where would you like that to be?
That opportunity would be great. I'd never exhibit my work before, so any where would be great.
* Are you looking forward to entering the contest for next year?
For sure! I'm just finishing one.
* Do you recommend use of the Internet for an artist's publicity?
Not only recommend... I think it is at last, the cheaper way.
* Would you change anything about how the contest is organised?
I think it's great the way it is, but everything must be upgraded and take advantage on the new technologies that come.
* How can the Internet be made better for working artists?
I think it's already being done. More velocity and cheaper every day, so almost everybody can access.
Thank you very much.
